McAllen Performing Arts Center
The cabaret-style musical that has swept Mexico, Perfume De Gardenia, comes to the McAllen Performing Arts Center on Thursday, October 23rd. This production still features some of the original performers who took the local theater scene by storm in 2011 when it was first released. That includes "La Chule," Araceli Arambula in the lead role as Gardenia Peralta.
One of the secrets to the success of this musical is its unique element of being a performance within a story arc. In a sense, you're getting to see a cabaret performance that fits into the ins and outs of the play. Pretty much every actor who will be taking the stage has had a bright career in Mexican TV. This sense of familiarity with the performers certainly helps audiences be more engaged with the show.
As we love to say when plays and musicals are making their way to this venue, Broadway rules apply! You want to look for a spot in the middle of the theater with an elevated position, a few rows removed from the stage.
