Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live in Concert makes its way into the McAllen Performing Arts Center on Thursday, September 14, 2023. This live event is organized by Senbla, a London-based company known for various productions of movie screenings accompanied by a live orchestral soundtrack.
American filmmakers and voice actors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller collaborated their talents to create a fresh vision of a new Spider-Man Universe with the movie’s first-of-its-kind visual style. The movie revolves around the story of Miles Morales, a Brooklyn kid, and the introduction of the Spider-Verse, where limitless possibilities can occur for the friendly neighborhood Marvel hero.
The highly-acclaimed animated film will be played on a large HD screen partnered with a live orchestral band performing the compositions of Daniel Pemberton, an Emmy award-winning film composer. This internationally recognized score features hit tracks by artists like Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Jaden Smith, and Nicki Minaj.
Daniel Pemberton is best known for winning multiple Golden Globes, Oscars, BAFTAs, and Ivor Novello Awards. In 2014, he received the World Soundtrack Awards' "Discovery of the Year" honor and has been hailed as one of the most innovative and energetic names in modern film composing. “Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse is one of my favorite scores I’ve ever written.“ he explains.
“I’m always trying to do things that are unconventional and not based around traditional setups, and they’re always impossible to do live,” Pemberton shares via a Zoom call from London. “I’d always sort of resigned myself to the fact that I was probably never going to be able to do live concerts.”
Incorporating scratch turntable techniques into an orchestral recording was one of the technical challenges in recording this composition. Hence, the uncompressed symphonic recording was instead electronically spun and scratched using state-of-the-art Serato DJ software with the aid of DJ Blakey, a skilled London turntablist.
